Behind every product is a story. Le Tablier’s story begins with a simple question: why should care garments be purely functional, without ever considering the person wearing them?
That question inspired the creation of a mealtime protector designed to combine comfort, durability, and dignity.
An idea born from an observation
During the pandemic, protective clothing became part of everyday life for many people. Masks, gowns, and medical equipment served an essential purpose, but they also raised a question: could care garments be made more human?
While exploring where this idea could have the greatest impact, a meeting with the organization Laura Lémerveil brought a little-known reality to light.
An often invisible reality
At mealtimes, many people living with a disability or limitation use a mealtime protector to keep their clothing clean.
Yet the options currently available rarely meet their needs. Families and caregivers are often left choosing between products designed for young children and models with a very medical appearance, leaving little room for personality or dignity.
This reality became the starting point for Le Tablier.
Designing a product with the people who use it
Rather than designing a product in theory, Le Tablier was developed in collaboration with the people who would actually use it.
The first prototypes were tested with young people with multiple disabilities to validate the dimensions, comfort, fastenings, and level of protection provided during meals. Every adjustment had one goal: to create a mealtime protector truly adapted to everyday life.
Today, this approach continues to guide the product’s development so that it can meet the needs of a wider range of people living with limitations, regardless of age.
When design becomes an act of dignity
A mealtime protector is often worn several times a day. Why should it be purely utilitarian?
Le Tablier is designed to feel more like clothing than a care accessory. Its original illustrations, created by Québec artists, bring colour, personality, and a sense of normalcy to an everyday item.
Because caring for someone also means caring about their self-image and self-esteem.
A solution designed for everyday life
Every detail of Le Tablier was designed to make mealtimes easier:
- a cut that provides better protection;
- one absorbent side and one waterproof side, depending on your needs;
- an adjustable neckline;
- durable materials;
- fabrics and manufacturing made in Canada.
The result is a practical, reusable mealtime protector designed to support people living with limitations in their everyday lives.
A mission that continues to evolve
Le Tablier was created to meet a specific need, but its mission goes further.
We want to offer care garments that put the person first. Adaptive, durable, and thoughtfully designed products that help make mealtimes more comfortable while preserving the dignity of the people who wear them.
